Motèl Mari are João Orecchia, Mpumelelo Mcata (BLK JKS) and Tshepang Ramoba (BLK JKS).
The band started after the release of Hands and Feet. Mpumi and Tshepang both played on some of the songs on that album and when it was time to perform the songs, they played a lot of the shows with me. The songs started to develop on stage into something I began to like almost more than the album, so I asked them to make it official and Motèl Mari was born.
We made the album Eternal Peasant, did a bit of a Europe tour and played all over Johannesburg for several years. We were the biggest underground experimental pop band in town.
